Many thanks to our outgoing Club President, Pablo Cataño, who served in that post during the 1996 Presidential election year and in 1997.
Congratulations to our newly-elected Club officers:
President Jim Dear
1st Vice President Carol Norman
2nd Vice President Alicia Brewster
Treasurer Jack Wilson
Recording Secretary Jim McGreevy
Corresponding Secretary Doris GriffinAnd condolences to Bill Mohr, who lost a close election for 2nd V.P. A big "Thank you!" to outgoing President Pablo Cataño, who led us through a very important election cycle in 1996 as well as leading us through this past year. Though our Party failed to regain leadership in Congress in 1996, we did very well locally and gained a strong majority in the State Legislature as well as helping provide a large plurality for President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore.
Hopefully, in 1998 we will be just as successful in recapturing all of the Statewide offices, maintaining our majority in the State Legislature and reelecting Senator Barbara Boxer!

Former longtime County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, 77 years old, died on October 12, 1997. Supervisor Hahn did more for poor people -- for ALL people -- in Los Angeles County than any County Supervisor ever has. Seven years ago we made Kenny Hahn our Club's only Lifetime Member. Our condolences go to his children, L.A. City Attorney Jim Hahn, Charter Commissioner Janice Hahn and to all his family. He will be remembered for many years.
Dominic "Don" Davis, a Club member for 13 years and prolific letter-writer who was also a leader in the South Bay Gray Panthers, died at the end of July, 1997. Don was a leader in our Club in the fight to save Social Security and Medicare and to protect senior citizens from scams. Our condolences to Don's family. Don will be missed.
Ralph "Chick" McGreevy, 75, father of Club Recording Secretary Jim McGreevy, died on July 20, 1997. Chick attended most of our Club's Brunches and always voted Democratic. He was a Navy veteran of the Second World War and was great believer in Liberal causes. Our condolences to his family.
Sandy Schaffer, daughter of former Congressional candidate Jack Shaffer, who worked with many in our Club in her father's campaign and in the George McGovern for President campaign in 1972. Our condolences to her parents, to her sister Karen and her brother Bill and to all her family. She will be missed.
Lilio E. "Leo" Gattoni, a leading citizen of San Pedro and friend to every person and animal he ever met, died in April 1997. Leo was a Club member only occasionally but he never missed any of our Club Brunches. He was very active in the Progressive Democratic Club and in the Mexican American Democratic Club and with many charity organizations. Condolences to his family. He will be missed.
