If you're really rich (or you've got a rich uncle who pays for your toys), this is the best source of inside information on Washington "Inside-the-Beltway" goings-on. They occasionally put up new sample pages at their National Journal's Congress Daily page to whet your appetite.
They seem to have stopped updating the Web site in December 1996, but the magazine is still available on newsstands. It's the best source of criticism of government bureaucracy and its "revolving door." Get it! (And it's cheap!)

San Jose Mercury-News (Mercury Center)
Broke the story in the National Press about the CIA-Nicaraguan Contra-Crack Cocaine drug connection, which had been reported ten years earlier in the Alternative Media but ignored by the National Press. The story, Dark Alliance by Gary Webb, focuses on deliberately selling thousands of pounds of drugs to L.A. street gangs in the 1980s to finance the CIA-backed Contra rebels.. Senator Barbara Boxer, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald and a number of Los Angeles-area cities have called for Congressional and internal Central Intelligence Agency investigations of the fiasco. Includes testimony and evidence from the Court case.
In mid-1997 ran a 10-part series -- AMERICA: Who Stole The Dream? -- by Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele, who wrote America: What Went Wrong four years ago. Who Stole The Dream_ deals with the rapid disintegration of the American Middle Class, the Poor getting poorer and the Rich getting richer. They also note that the same thing happened 100 years ago, and the people formed a movement to defeat the Robber Barons then. This is a shortened, free version of the story for Internet visitors who are not Philadelphia Inquirer subscribers.
In July 1997 ran a series on "Toxic Waste in Fertilizer" which showed that farmworkers and people in rural communities face many dangers from the chemicals they spread. Chemical companies only have to "guarantee" that nitrogen & soluble potash are in their products. Most States don't require that they list other "ingredients," even low-level nuclear waste!

If you've got any other favorite Web sites, please give us their names and Web addresses (URLs) and we'll check them out. Right now, we need information on Democratic activities in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. If you belong to a Democratic group in a school, college or community please leave a message (press FEEDBACK below) including the name of the group and details such as the group's meeting place and time, address and URL or e-mail address. If appropriate, we can include the information here so that others can find and join your group.
The California Democratic Council (CDC) is a progressive organization comprising many Democratic Clubs throughout the State. The CDC also sponsors the "CDC Forum," which went online in mid-1994, making it one of the oldest Democratic_ sites online. The CDC Forum is a newsgroup that any Club member from a CDC-affiliated Club can join. The CDC Forum basically "broadcasts" every e-mail message that members send to it to every other Forum member. There are many interesting tidbits that appear regularly which Forum administrator Dennis Paull frequently uploads, such as the "Jefferson Report." But more often than not you'll find that the most interesting and timely information comes from Democratic Club members such as yourselves.
You can visit the CDC's NEW Website by clicking here. There you will find articles detailing the CDC's history, goals and organization. To join the CDC Forum send an e-mail message, mentioning the CDC-affiliated Democratic Club that you belong to to Dennis Paull and requesting membership (by the way, the Gardena Valley Democratic Club is not affiliated at present). Please note whether you'd like to join the "CDC List" only and get announcements and new topics or whether you would also like to join the Discussion list to get other members' responses to the topics. Visit the new CDC Website to get more detailed information.
