WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

– 7 WEEKS TO THE ELECTION –

Though Al Gore and Joe Lieberman hold a commanding lead in California, the South Bay area is still a battleground -- in our fight to win back the U.S. House of Representatives. Jane Harman, who represented the 36th Congressional District until her run for Governor two years ago, is in a tough fight to take back her seat from the incumbent Republican. Gerrie Schipske is vying to unseat an incumbent in the 38th Congressional District in Long Beach. We need only five more seats to take back the majority in Congress, and in the Los Angeles area we can gain three, our two South Bay seats plus Adam Schiff in Pasadena. And our votes are crucial to re-elect Dianne Feinstein to the United States Senate.

All of you deserve thanks for all the work you've done in recent years to make California a Democratic State. It took a lot of hard work on your part to win California twice for President Clinton and Vice President Gore, then to win back the State Legislature and to make Gray Davis our Governor, after a 16-year drought. But we shouldn't be complacent. A low voter turnout on November 7th can hand victory to the Republicans.

We need you again now, and for the next seven weeks. We will be grateful for whatever you can do, from contributing, to displaying yard signs, to hosting a coffee, to stuffing envelopes, phoning or walking your precinct. Anything you can do will help. Or, if you can't help physically, talk to your friends. Get them to register to vote, and to vote Democratic!
